Just one more reason to come to Toronto for the Catholic Media Convention 2008

Several exciting events have just been added to the schedule for the Catholic Media Convention 2008, being held May 28-30 in Toronto, Canada.

Following our opening banquet on Wednesday evening, May 28, we will have the pleasure of hearing the award-winning orchestra of the Governor General's Foot Guards.

On Thursday evening, May 29, there will be an Ontario cultural evening and reception in Toronto's historic distillery district. It will feature special guest, singer-songwriter John Michael Talbot, who will perform some of his well-known songs for us. All of this is now part of the convention program at no extra charge to participants.

"After months of negotiation with the municipal and provincial government in Canada, we are thrilled to have the sponsorship of both Ontario and the city of Toronto for the 2008 Media Convention," said Fr. Thomas Rosica, C.S.B., the CEO of Canada's Salt and Light Catholic Television Network. "Nearly six years ago we welcomed the world to Toronto for World Youth Day 2002! This year we welcome back to Toronto the people who told the world about World Youth Day 2002!"

Fr. Rosica is co-chair, along with Joseph Sinasac, publisher and editor of The Catholic Register, of the local organizing committee for the convention.

The Thursday evening cultural event takes place at the Boiler House Restaurant after the Thursday evening Eucharist with Quebec Cardinal Marc Ouellet in the nearby historic St. Paul's Basilica, Toronto's oldest church. After Mass, conference Tourism Toronto will bus attendees to the restaurant, which is a few minutes away. This event has been made possible with the help of the Government of Ontario, a gold sponsor of this year's Media Convention.

Tourism Toronto has also pitched in, providing the bus transportation from the Sheraton hotel to the Mass, the Distillery District and back to the hotel.

The Distillery District is Toronto's hippest attraction. The 150-year-old former Gooderham and Worts’ Victorian industrial buildings have been transformed into art galleries, cafes, boutiques and entertainment venues.

The Toronto host committee has been working for months to put together this wonderful evening on behalf of all their guests at the Catholic Media Convention. They look forward to seeing you there.

It's not too late to join us. You will find registration forms here.

Sheraton Center Toronto hotel

Stay at one of Toronto's premier hotels.

The Sheraton Centre Toronto is right across from City Hall and in the midst of the city's commerce and shopping district. It is also a five-minute walk from St. Michael's Cathedral. It's where you want to be in Toronto. We'll see you in May!

Important Reminder: Though the U.S. laws regarding passports are in flux, one thing is true: if you fly into Toronto for the convention, you will need a passport to get back into the United States. If you don’t have a passport, get one NOW and avoid the delays. We don’t want anything to stop you from joining us here in Toronto.

The Catholic Media Convention
brings together members of the Catholic Press Association and the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals - professionals in the fields of Catholic print and audiovisual communications, as well as Catholic communications / public relations directors - for the purpose of spiritual, economic and professional development.

The agenda for the three-day gathering includes focus camps (targeting various disciplines / areas of concern or emphasis) within these professionals, as well as seminars on specific topics, especially as related to professional development, economic growth or spiritual concerns.

Both organizations present - on the final day of the meeting - awards recognizing excellence among their membership.

Each day of the meeting includes the celebration of Liturgy, with the Catholic Mass on the Friday of the meeting recalling in a special way members of the Catholic Press Association and Catholic Academy who have died in the year since the last spring meeting of these two organizations.
